Laboratory Services

Mandate

The mandate of Laboratory Services is to provide high-quality screening services for prevention of diseases; diagnostic services; monitoring of disease trends and adherence to treatment and epidemiological investigations for surveillance and disease outbreaks as well as disaster preparedness to support public health.

Services:

Routine Screening of disease; diagnostic services; treatment monitoring; epidemiological investigations; operational research; quality assessments/continuous quality improvement.

Department Objectives And Functions

To provide the highest quality laboratory services for all people living in Lesotho, delivered by skilled professionals, and to contribute to a healthy population living quality and productive life:

To ensure that Laboratory Services are well managed, networked, and coordinated
To Strengthen Quality Assurance of Testing Services
To manage Laboratory equipment and supplies
To adequately finance and staff Laboratory Services at all levels
To provide effective training for Laboratory professionals in pre-and in-service settings
To design, construct and maintain Laboratories according to national standards
To strengthen decentralization of services
To establish a well-defined Public Health Laboratory
