In 2007, the Lesotho Ministry of Health and Social Welfare brought partners together to formulate a comprehensive response to the threat of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis (TB), which had recently been reported in neighboring KwaZulu Natal. International collaborators included Partners In Health, the Open Society Institute, the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND), and the World Health Organization. Through this program, state-of-the-art diagnostics and quality-assured second-line TB drugs procured through the Green Light Committee Initiative (GLC) were available to patients diagnosed with Drug-Resistant (DR) TB.
